Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
